wackystuff was born in New York and raised in Pennsylvania, the Ozarks of the North East. In 1976, he started a novelty button company and headed out to California. As Tim Leary said: the East Cost is an intelligence test, anyone who stays there failed. He designed and produced thousands of original buttons, magnets, stickers, and cards. After living in San Francisco, then rural Southern Oregon, he sold his company (Ephemera) and retired to Victoria BC, with his Canadian wife.
